Towable Caravan

Circumstances have changed so we are selling our bowtop that I have built from scratch on a caravan chassis.

Construction is pine, fully insulated. Roof beams are douglas fir, with hard wood ash bows all from the estate on where its built. Roof is insulated with 5cm sheeps wool.

Regentex 12oz canvas, waterproof, fire and rot resistant all sewn together with uv/ rot resistant thread.

Small kitchen area inside with wood burner. full size double bed with under seat storage.

240v electrics with caravan hook up with consumer unit.

There are a few things to finish and will take me another weeks work.

Twin axle by Knox, Germany recently upgraded roof canvas from Attwolls, Weatherboard and horse carving made by craftsman Ted Sargent.

Showman Waggon
Circa 1890

Built to be horse drawn. Measuring approximately 12 ½ feet long by 7 ¼ feet wide. Doors front and back.

Grease caps stamped with manufacturer’s name. Front and back windows etched with initials HRP.

Kept under cover for the last 20 years, except for one summer out.  Partially restored in early 2000’s to keep structure sound but much is original including the undercarriage, wheels, grease caps, cut-glass windows (all of the lantern and three of the four front/back windows). Original wooden roof was covered with 6mm ply and fibreglass on top of this so wagon is watertight, but a purist could remove this if so desired. Repainted in 2008 with Craftmaster Paints.  Some of the original wood round the back windows now needs work. Would make a nice light project for someone to touch up or repaint, decorate and furnish.

Three Waggons For Sale

A ledge waggon, cobblers waggon and a travellers waggon for sale .

All in good condition, rolling and needing a coat of paint and some tlc. All dry inside.

Loss of storage area forces sale and my children have grown and no longer use them.

All fitted out traditionally inside with wood burners.

Not much history knownbut these are solid, easily moved sound waggons.

Accommodation Top
and Artillery Wheeled Dray

Accommodation top design and built to lift off so the dray can be used separately. 

Compact and light weight the top measurers:
6 ft high inside, 7ft 5" from front to back inside and 8ft 5" outside. Inside floor width is 4ft 6" and the bed spot is 5ft 10" long and when fully pulled out is 4ft wide. Bench seats both sides and one storage cupboard plus storage under the bed space.

The dray is 8ft x 5ft on 4 stud 19" Artillery wheels , with a wind on brake, wooden shafts and a large pan box.

The roof sheet is in good condition with no rips. This is an Open Lot (open fronted no door) and the front sheet is a little worn. Front doors and windows could easily be added so could a stove

Showman Waggon
Built Circa 1930s

For sale - our 20ft Showman’s Wagon. We have had it for over 20 years and use it as part of our accommodation business in the North of Scotland.

It is believed to be built in Buckhaven in the 1930s, and is on WW2 axles/wheels. It is laid out as a single room and has some bevelled glass.

We have re-covered the roof. Some tidying required. Trailer, not tow, away.

Bowtop Waggon

Full size, Bowtop waggon in need of tidying.

In good water tight condition. This waggon needs a bit of paint to bring it back to life. Recently converted from an open lot into a doors and windows waggon.

It comes with shafts, steps , cratch, wind on brake and a pan box.

Complete standard layout inside on a 9ft x 5ft dray with pull out bed at the rear measuring   approx. 6'4 " x 4' when pulled out. Opening rear window.

The wooden wheels were fully rebuilt in 2015 so should last 100 years, it never has had a stove fitted but I do have a queenie I would sell separate.

Original Norfolk Cart

Regularly used and pulled by a 14.1hh cob. It is very sound and has been repainted. Always a eye turner, and conversation piece. Beautifully balanced,and runs like a silver cross pram!

A very fine and early example of an original Henry Jones & Son of Hereford ledge wagon. Jones was one of the noted top builders of Romany vardos and Showman caravans in Britain at the time.

Good sized doors and windows waggon on
 9ft x 5ft dray in great condition.

Nice swan neck shafts, nicely shaped swooped steps, good sized bed spot, (6ft 6 inch x 2ft 4inch closed and  6'6" x 4ft  when fully pulled out),
good wheels and springs, opening back sash window, good sheet, pan box, two drawers under the bed spot with two cupboards under them, nicely painted no rot anywhere.

There is no stove but I have a queenie stove which can be purchased and fitted by me if buyer requires. Delivery is a possibility.

A lovely example of an original Burton-style Showman built by William Wheeler of Guildford, Surrey, who was an early & noted coach builder listed in the town's directory from 1900 to WWI.

Fabulous carvings and beautifully carved porch-brackets typical of Wheeler adorn the body.

Would make an ideal spare room, glamping, work space. Very comfortable, and rolls nicely.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire Justice Eve's (Sir Harry Trelawyn Eve) 1906 Jones of Summertown, Oxford, reading-style caravan with full provenance.
